Ronnie and Caro Tribute 2010

Tribute will honour the men whose dedication to the mas form has made Carnival what it is today, the ‘greats’ who stepped into our history and took Carnival from the days of mas on the truck, to the streets.
Harold Saldenah, “The Historian”, copped six Band of the Year titles. In 1968 his imagination rose to the challenge with his presentation “City of Gold”, where he combined history and fantasy brilliantly.
George Bailey, “The Monarch”, also known as “The African King” – In 1957 his presentation “Back to Africa” was the most celebrated band in the history of modern Carnival. He copped six Band of the Year titles.
Irvin Mc Williams believed that, within our shores, there is untapped material for magnificent mas. In 1971 he set out to prove this with his presentation “Wonders of Buccoo Reef.”
Raoul Garib – This three-time Band of the Year winner was also very passionate about local themes. His three portrayals, “The Sting”, “The Market Place” and “Gulf of Paria” carried him to his victories.
Stephen Lee Heung – Although not a designer, he was a very successful Bandleader. Chang’s final design, “We Kinda People”, was presented by Lee Heung in 1975.
Jason Griffith/George Harding – “Diamond Jim”, as Harding was fondly called, was the unofficial King of Sailor Mas. From the traditional Navy-style uniforms, Fancy Sailor costumes changed and were later embellished with sequins, swans’ down, etc.
Edmund and Lil Hart, “The Fun Lovers” – Winning the Band of the Year title five times, their portrayals ran the gamut from history to fantasy and bikini mas. Their style was all about masqueraders being comfortable and having fun.
Wayne Berkeley, “The Showman” – Copping eleven Band of the Year titles, he feels just as much at home doing small mas. He produced “Firebird” in 1998 for a Band in St. Maarten, “Fire and Ice”.
Peter Minshall, “The Dramatist”, copped seven Band of the Year titles. “The Humming Bird” was his first costume in 1974. Although not a Queen of the Band costume, it stood out due to its sheer beauty. Minshall describes Carnival as theatre on the streets.
